Skate Buddy is run by Stravyn Technologies LLC (“we”). It helps ice dance and pairs skaters find a partner, with their coaches in the loop. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to have it removed. Using the app also means agreeing to our terms of use. We don’t sell your information, and the app has no ads and no third-party tracking.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code or link. There are no passwords.
- Skater profile: name, date of birth, gender, height, discipline and role, test and competition levels, home rink, a photo, and skating clips you upload. Your date of birth is used to show your age and to apply under-18 rules; the date itself isn’t shown to other skaters.
- What you’re looking for: the partner preferences you set (discipline, role, distance, height range and similar).
- Location: we use your home rink’s location to work out distances. We don’t track your phone’s location.
- Coach profile: name, credentials, coaching history and results you choose to add, and the communities you run.
- Activity in the app: messages, tryout requests and planned tryouts, shortlists, people you hide, reports you make, and notifications sent to you.
- Under 18: profiles for skaters under 18 are set up and run by a parent or guardian from the parent’s own account. We store the parent’s name and email (the account’s sign-in email) with the skater’s profile.
- Device and feedback: a sign-in token and push-notification token for each phone, and, if you send feedback from the app, your note with the phone model, OS and app version so we can reproduce the issue.
Who can see it
- Other skaters and coaches using Skate Buddy can see your skater profile and clips. Your email, your guardian’s details and your exact date of birth are not shown to them.
- Coaches in your community can see your profile, your tryout requests and your planned tryouts. Once a tryout is agreed, the coaches involved can see each other’s contact details.
- Messages are visible only to the people in that conversation.
- We use a few service providers to run the app: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Cloudflare (video and photo storage), Resend (sign-in emails), Expo (app updates and push notifications), and Google (rink search). They process data only to provide those services to us.
Young skaters
Profiles for skaters under 18 are run by a parent or guardian from the parent’s own account, so the parent sees every request and chat. Skate Buddy is for arranging skating partnerships through coaches, not for dating, and we remove accounts that misuse it. A parent or guardian can ask us to see or delete their child’s information by emailing hello@skatebuddy.app.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is open. To delete your account and everything in it (profile, clips, messages, tryouts), open the app and go to Profile → Delete account; it’s removed right away. If you can’t open the app, email hello@skatebuddy.app from the address you sign in with, and we’ll delete it within 30 days. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis after that.
Pilot version
During the pilot, the app includes sample profiles, marked “Sample”, so there’s someone to search for. They aren’t real people, and messages to them aren’t read.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above and tell you in the app if the change matters. For any question, email hello@skatebuddy.app.
